frequently asked questions

  • We do not sleep train. We don’t even use “gentle” sleep training techniques. If you are looking for a sleep trainer we not the right team to work with you. The reason our approach is so different is because we help you get to the root cause(s) of your baby’s sleep disturbances, and we work with you to minimize whatever is no longer working for your family. We will also help you to understand biologically normal infant sleep. Night wakings are normal, protective, and conducive to a breastfeeding relationship. That being said, we of course want as few of them as we can get! We’ll help you optimize your baby’s sleep patterns so that your whole family gets more rest with NO sleep training. It IS possible!

  • Yes! We LOVE toddlers. We have toddlers of our own and- they are tough. Toddlers present their own unique challenges with not only sleep but behavior, attachment, feeding, and more. We’ll help you address any issue you’re having- related to sleep or not. Our backgrounds in early childhood education and developmental psychology means we have TONS of tricks up my sleeve to help you work with any toddler or preschooler challenge.

  • This question comes up all the time. We all want to make sure our baby is “normal.” If you’re questioning any of this, please know that every baby is normal and they are all doing the best they can! Book a consultation with us if you have a some of these questions about how your baby is sleeping and want some reassurance and guidance.

  • No problem! Send us an email and we can create a custom package for you. We find that it usually works best to work with one baby at a time, but there are special circumstances so we’ll want to talk with you first to hear about your unique situation and goals.

  • Rachael has a Master’s in Special Education and taught young children with all kinds of medical, neurological, and behavioral special needs for 9 years. The other team members at HSB also have backgrounds in ECE and developmental psychology, and we have a trained Occupational Therapist on staff as well. We am not afraid of children with disabilities- in fact they are our most favorite people in the world. We’ll help you with a plan that respects the wonderful uniqueness of your child, whether they are neurodivergent, have a physical disability, have a chronic illness, etc.

  • Absolutely! Breastfeeding and/or cosleeping are not prerequisites to working with us at all! We work with all types of families with all types of parenting choices and set ups. We’ll help you with your baby’s sleep no matter how they eat or where they sleep. As long as you don’t intend on sleep training, we’re your people.

  • We hear you. We, too, have shelled out SO much money on sleep consultants and sleep training programs with our first babies, to absolutely no avail. That sucked. With us, we won’t offer you a guarantee that your baby will start sleeping 12 hours per night, or that you’ll have perfect naps. We will help you to set realistic expectations and do everything we can to work with you to make sure your goals are met.

Our babies are human and they are EVER changing- they aren’t little robots that we can program to sleep 7-7 (though it would be nice!) so we do not offer any 100% guarantee. What we CAN promise is that we will get to the root issue and work to optimize sleep for your whole family, while protecting your attachment, your breastfeeding relationship (if that’s a goal), and your sanity. If we’re stumped, we have a huge network of resources for you to check in with in other areas such as lactation, occupational therapy, dentistry/ ENT, osteopathy/ bodywork, etc.

We also offer 2 scholarships per month for our hand-holding calls and e-mail packages, reserved for BIPOC, low-income or otherwise marginalized groups. If you’d like to apply for this please send an email message to hello@heysleepybaby.com
